Fred Ng

Fred Ng is a turnaround CFO/CRO with more than 20 years’ international experience working with distressed companies and their stakeholder in UK, Europe and emerging markets. He has held advisory, CFO and other senior finance roles with companies of varying sizes in the UK and Asia. Industry experience includes property, glass manufacturing, building materials, printing, financial services, retailing chemical, garment, textiles, insurance, oil and gas, professional services, beverages, food products and general manufacturing.

Professional Experience

Fred began his post-qualification career with Heron in 1989 where he played a key role in successfully completing this complex cross border £1bn restructuring, which was named “Project Fred” due to his heavy involvement. Fred then pursued his career in Asia and in 1993 became CFO of Asian Capital Partners, a regional investment bank headquartered in Hong Kong. He led a MBO of part of the business which was then sold to ABN AMRO. In addition, he also held senior finance roles with Standard Chartered and Carrefour Asia. During the Asian financial crisis in 1998, he founded a restructuring boutique in Singapore specialising in acting as adviser/ CRO to a number of large listed groups with a combined debt of over US$2bn. One of the transactions he acted on, the Mulia Group with US$600m of debt, was shortlisted for the IFR Asia Restructuring of the Year 2000.

In 2001, Fred returned to UK and held senior restructuring roles with KPMG and RSM in London and was involved in a range of UK and European restructurings including Marconi and Cookson. Since 2005, he has undertaken a number of executive and advisory roles including CFO of Hampton Trust PLC, a distressed property company. Since 2007, he has been involved in advising some distressed investors in the origination and restructuring of investments in Eastern Europe. Fred is a regular restructuring speaker and is also a visiting lecturer at the Manchester Business School (Turnaround). Fred has recently finished a three-year assignment as CFO of an Italian manufacturing company.
